Lazy Sunday BBQ

This is last Sunday's BBQ. It was a lazy Sunday. We didn't get much of anything done. It was definitely a BBQ day though. Even though I was a bit too lazy to get the real BBQ fired up. This was a lazy Sunday indoor oven type BBQ. It still managed to turn out pretty good, though.

We had chicken wings, and jalapeƱo poppers. These aren't those poppers you typically find in an appetizer section of a menu. These are fresh jalapeƱos that are cut open, and cored out. A piece of Monterrey jack cheese is placed inside, then a piece of smoked sausage on top. Skewer it with a toothpick and place on grill. Roast until cheese is melty and pepper begins to char a bit. Dee-lish! Today, though, the variation was to place in oven, along with pan of wings, bake low and slow at 200 degrees. Let go until pepper gets soft and blistered.

Dog Blogging - pwnage!

I don't know what it is about her (Chloe), but somehow she manages to constantly kick his (Casey) ace. Every once in a while, he gets his shots in, but she is fearless.

Food Blogging - Chocolate Cheesecake

This Friday, me and wifey were up in Mankato doing some shopping. We had to stop in the mall and get a couple of sheet pans for baking. While we looking around, I spotted a spring form pan, which we don't have, and got an instant craving for cheesecake. It's been a while since I've made cheesecake. One of the last ones that really sticks out is several years ago, before we got married. It had chopped up pieces of snickers bars on it. A quick search on Food Network dot com turned up several results. Including:

Terrible Lie - Brown Eyed Girl

This is a new article for me. This is where I take the exciting world of the music industry and turn it down to the mundane and painfully normal. Think those rockers have it made? Today's victim, Van Morrison's 'Brown-Eyed Girl.'

It is fairly common knowledge that this song was originally penned up as 'Brown Skinned Girl' and that Van was in fact friends with Jim Morrison. Everyone always pictured in their minds that this brown skinned girl he was referring to would have been an exotic girl of sorts. Perhaps of Latin, African American, or the ever so exotic southeast Asian or Pacific Islander. In this case it is really far from the truth. Van, being in desperate need of a muse turned to alcohol. One night while finding himself in need of companionship, he found a nice woman. Full of conversation she was, and maybe it was the appletinis talking, but he felt something. Although, this was a mere one night stand, she lit the fire in him.

After sobering up, the beer goggles wore off, and this is what he saw....

Although, shaken up by what he saw, the feelings could not be denied. Thus, she was described the best way he knew how... brown skinned. Her actual eye color was not known, so it was mainly 'fudged' into the lyrics.

Featured Software - Orbitron

This is something I've been using for quite a while now. Something to keep my inner geek interested. Orbitron by Sebastian Stoff.

You can track satellites and predict Iridium flares with it. Good clean fun for the amateur star gazer and anyone who gets curious about what's floating around out there. The software is free and very easy to view / navigate.

Also, for more info on orbiting satellites, iridium flares, and amateur radio satellites there is: http://www.heavens-above.com
