I need to post something. I've been meaning to for a while. But here's the latest... This was written up about two weeks ago.

So, it's settled. I have my new job officially, starting Monday on 2nd shift. I was pretty much in since my interview on Monday when the drug screening / physical was set up. As soon as I was scheduled for drug screening, I quit my stinking job. Walked in late from lunch, and handed over the news, grabbed my tools and got the hell out! I've been happy all week just leaving that place with the jackass of a foreman for a supervisor. My lower back, shoulder, wrist, hands have been happier, too. (That is IF they can be happy) The new job will be MUCH better than this one. Even the environment felt better.

And, now, with free mornings combined with the internets and all of it's magical powers, I will be starting classes this fall. More on the school in the near future. The one thing I do know is that I'll be going for Engineering. I still have to figure out which discipline of Engineering. To kick off the food theme, I'm using a classic. The burger! In this, there will be all my crazy variations on it.

Today's version is something I came up with last night. For those who don't know, I work in a shop, which unlike any office job I've had, works up an appetite. I had a craving for a burger, and any plain burger just wasn't going to cut it.

I cheated on this one and used the pre-molded patties. This is also on a fresh bun. I'm going to just list this one on the way it was created from the ground up.

Cheese
Burger
Sliced Bratwurst
Bacon
Cheese
Burger
Bacon

Also, Chipotle BBQ sauce was put on the bun... top and bottom.

Dee-lish!

Lazy Sunday BBQ

This is last Sunday's BBQ. It was a lazy Sunday. We didn't get much of anything done. It was definitely a BBQ day though. Even though I was a bit too lazy to get the real BBQ fired up. This was a lazy Sunday indoor oven type BBQ. It still managed to turn out pretty good, though.

We had chicken wings, and jalapeño poppers. These aren't those poppers you typically find in an appetizer section of a menu. These are fresh jalapeños that are cut open, and cored out. A piece of Monterrey jack cheese is placed inside, then a piece of smoked sausage on top. Skewer it with a toothpick and place on grill. Roast until cheese is melty and pepper begins to char a bit. Dee-lish! Today, though, the variation was to place in oven, along with pan of wings, bake low and slow at 200 degrees. Let go until pepper gets soft and blistered.

Dog Blogging - pwnage!

I don't know what it is about her (Chloe), but somehow she manages to constantly kick his (Casey) ace. We had to stop in the mall and get a couple of sheet pans for baking. While we looking around, I spotted a spring form pan, which we don't have, and got an instant craving for cheesecake. It's been a while since I've made cheesecake. One of the last ones that really sticks out is several years ago, before we got married. It had chopped up pieces of snickers bars on it. A quick search on Food Network dot com turned up several results. This is where I take the exciting world of the music industry and turn it down to the mundane and painfully normal. Think those rockers have it made? Today's victim, Van Morrison's 'Brown-Eyed Girl.'

It is fairly common knowledge that this song was originally penned up as 'Brown Skinned Girl' and that Van was in fact friends with Jim Morrison. Everyone always pictured in their minds that this brown skinned girl he was referring to would have been an exotic girl of sorts. Perhaps of Latin, African American, or the ever so exotic southeast Asian or Pacific Islander. In this case it is really far from the truth. Van, being in desperate need of a muse turned to alcohol. One night while finding himself in need of companionship, he found a nice woman. Full of conversation she was, and maybe it was the appletinis talking, but he felt something. Although, this was a mere one night stand, she lit the fire in him.

After sobering up, the beer goggles wore off, and this is what he saw....

Although, shaken up by what he saw, the feelings could not be denied. Thus, she was described the best way he knew how... brown skinned. Her actual eye color was not known, so it was mainly 'fudged' into the lyrics.

Featured Software - Orbitron

This is something I've been using for quite a while now. Just use some common sense. To a degree there's a little bit of it in everything. But I'm starting to see that what everyone considers common sense really isn't that common.

Example. (I'll even use myself) I've had many different types of jobs: restaurant (cooking / serving / support staff), retail, IT, office work, and now shop work. I've made my fair share of mistakes and tend to be a quick study at avoiding them. Not having the tribal knowledge, I have a hard time thinking this would be considered to be 'common sense.' Common sense to me would be a few things like "save work frequently in case of power outage", "chicken stored below any other kind of meat, seafood on top", "T-Bone is about the best steak out there", etc. I'm almost certain that a good chunk of the people I work with wouldn't consider my common sense to be common sense.

So, is common sense really all that common?

Terrible Lie - Life in the Fast Lane

This is a new article for me. This is where I take the exciting world of the music industry and turn it down to the mundane and painfully normal. Think those rockers have it made?

It is a little known fact about how the song "Life in the Fast Lane" was written by the Eagles. They were headed out after a long night at the recording studio to IHOP when tragedy struck! They hit gridlock!

The found themselves stuck in this bumper to bumper mayhem for over an hour. Finally, someone said "Hey look at that lane over there! Why are they moving? Wouldn't that be great if we could be in that carpool lane." After looking around at each other, it was realized that there WERE enough people in the car to be in that lane.

Oh, it was a glorious moment when The Eagles were able to finally use that carpool lane. It was decided to become a song. There was only one problem. No listener would see the whole glory of the moment with "carpool lane" or "HOV lane." It was decided to become "fast lane" and as the usual formula, it included fast times, the high life, and all those things way out of the reach of the unwashed masses mixed with tragedy.

Way to go Eagles... mixing the mundane with the exciting.

Armchair Quarterbacks

I'm getting to the point where I can't help but wonder... what is with the 'armchair quarterbacks' of the world? What is the sudden urge to coach on those who are doing the things they have done a million times on their own?

A prime example would be at work, with me on the forklift. I've moved a good number of things around the building, into the building, out of the building... you get the idea. Every time any one of the other employees needs this particular forklift, they don't just wait patiently. They wait patiently, look bored, then approach as to make an appearance. I'm ok with that, considering we all have to look busy. But, when they feel compelled to approach and 'guide' me into whatever it is that I'm grabbing, or where ever it is that I'm setting it down, I get a little annoyed. That is when I get distracted by their incomprehensible hand signals and bump into things.

So, it has me thinking.
